MapSnap privacy policy

Private by design.

MapSnap is an offline-first geography game from Project42 Apps. It is designed for children and families without accounts, adverts or behavioural tracking.

This policy covers MapSnap on iPhone, iPad and Android, as well as this website and support emails.

Information MapSnap uses

MapSnap does not require a MapSnap account. It does not send your gameplay information to us or contain advertising, analytics, tracking, social features or location services. Store transactions, device services, this website and support emails are explained separately below.

MapSnap stores only the following information on the device:

  • game progress, best scores and play preferences;
  • an optional additional city selected by a parent in the England Cities activity; and
  • a local record that a MapSnap World purchase or an eligible Apple access-code redemption has unlocked additional activities.

MapSnap stores this information locally, not on a developer-operated server. Depending on your device settings, Apple, Google or your device provider may include app data in a device backup or transfer. Those services have their own privacy terms; MapSnap does not provide its own cloud synchronisation service.

Children

MapSnap is designed for children and families. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Purchase controls and external links are placed behind a parental gate.

We are committed to following the Google Play Families policy for MapSnap on Android, including its requirements for age-appropriate content and children's privacy. This is our developer commitment, not a claim of Google certification or endorsement.

Purchases and access codes

Gameplay works offline. Buying or restoring MapSnap World requires an internet connection and uses the Apple App Store on iPhone and iPad, or Google Play on Android. The relevant store processes the transaction using your store account. MapSnap receives purchase-status and transaction-verification information from the store to manage the unlock, but does not receive payment-card information.

To confirm that MapSnap World has been purchased and to respond to refunds or revocations, MapSnap sends the app store's signed purchase information to its purchase-verification service. The service checks it with Apple or Google and stores only one-way hashes of transaction identifiers, the product and app identifiers, verification timestamps and the current purchase status. It does not receive the purchaser's Apple Account or Google Account email address, name or payment-card details. These records are used only to provide and protect the MapSnap World entitlement.

Individual access-code redemption, where offered in MapSnap, is an Apple-only feature and is processed by Apple. Apple codes cannot be redeemed through Google Play.

Apple and Google may also process information through their store, testing, diagnostic and device services, depending on the services you use and your settings. Their own privacy terms apply: Apple Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy.
